The Escape from Alcatraz triathlon is world famous for its challenging course and conditions. Each year Coach Rachel Casanta guides a group of intrepid, aspiring 'escapees' to the finish through her "Alcatraz triathlon" training plans and coaching. Below is a message from one of this year's athletes.
I wanted to thank you for the plan you provided us to prepare for the Alcatraz race. Despite arthroscopic knee surgery in November, a hip flexor injury in January and a bad case of respiratory flu in February, I made it through the race under my goal time of 3 hours. I credit the plan you put together for much of what I consider to be a very successful race. Thank you…...

A few words from another happy Hypercat Racing bike fit athlete!
I was in your shop last wednesday and got a bike fit. I just wanted to say thank you again for doing an excellent job. I put the bike fit to the ultimate test and rode in the Solvang century without any pain or discomfort. As I mentioned before that the farthest ride that i have been on was about 45 miles on this new bike and i was having pain in my back, arms, hands and knees. So to not have anything at all I am truly grateful. I look forward to referring people to you and also doing more business in the future.
Thanks again, Dennis Fox

Following a training plan is a smart way to provide a structured approach to your training. A periodized plan that progresses intelligently allows your body to be stressed appropriately while having adequate periods of rest and recovery. Even with a terrific training plan, if it isn’t set up to mirror your personal schedule then you may find yourself missing workouts and desired results. That’s why as a self-coached athlete to make the most of a group training program, you may need to make modifications to better fit your personal schedule, goals and personal strength-per-sport profile.
While preparing for your key event, here are some guidelines and suggestions to help you make your program more customized.

Rachel Sears Casanta, professional triathlete, Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon
The Escape from Alcatraz triathlon is one of the most famous triathlons in the world. Set against the backdrop of the beautiful city of San Francisco, this 1.5 mile swim, 18 mile bike and 8 mile run endurance challenge is one of my all time favorite triathlons. While training for Alcatraz requires special focus and dedication, choosing the proper equipment and understanding how to safely and effectively take on the course are all keys to a successful escape.
The introduction of the qualifying series as well as the lottery to gain entrance to Alcatraz has transformed this race, once dominated by Bay Area residents and Californians into a ...
