Re: Bike Fit / Hypercat
I want to say that Phil pulled through for me with the bike fit and getting me dialed in on the bike. No joke. Your husband helped me fall in love with riding again. I ended up doing the team event at Pac (bike) and unless my computer was wrong, I averaged 22 - 23mph over the course. It's the fastest that I've EVER ridden over 20+ miles.  And, thanks for the past training and tips. I use them often and clearly I am getting great results. You both ROCK!!!

Background: I visited Phil in May of 2009 to get better fitted on my Scott CR1 road bike. At the time I saw Phil, I had been competing in triathlons for 3.5 years and had only been fitted at the time that I originally bought my bike. Other than that, I did my own tweaks for correct "feel." In early 2009, I started searching for new ways to improve my 1) power transfer and 2) comfort on my road bike, so many in my tri-club said I should re-check my fitting. After a good amount of researching fitters and talking to experienced cyclists and triathletes, I decided to get fitted with Coach Phil based on his experience as an ex-pro and what I would call a laid-back-gear-headedness.

The fitting: My 2-hour session with Phil was what I had hoped for as a semi-serious athlete looking for both the latest in technical bike fit along with suggestions/instructions for technique improvements. Phil has a questionnaire you fill out to get a sense for what your athletic goals are and any biomechanical problems you've had in the past. I especially liked this wholistic approach, as my goal of getting faster and more aggressive on my road bike might have conflicted with prior injuries.
The fitting was very professional and included a discussion of what I was trying to achieve, body measurements and an overview of my equipment. Once on the bike, the use of lazers and mirrors were used to diagnose my cycling quirks. Phil adjusted everything you can imagine and fitted me with a new stem to get my position more aero and aggressive. I also got shims under one foot to correct tracking problems. (As an aside, His prices for new parts are very reasonable...I checked ebay)

Results: After 4 months, many training rides, one century and one olympic distance triathlon, I feel Phil's fitting has made me much more comfortable on my bike, but more importantly, it has improved my riding ability noticeably. Seriously. The fact that Phil accounted for my desire to improve in the fitting speaks to his abilities as a fitter.

Other: I know I've given mostly positives, but there are really not many drawbacks to my experience. His studio is out in the East Bay which can be a trek depending on where you live. Some might find the fitting a long time, but if you have lots of questions, like I do, you will find the fitting to go by quickly. Plus you'll gain a ton of valuable tips for specific races and general technique tips.

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend Phil as a fitter. The value is way better than if you went to one of the high volume bike shops in the bay area for a less expensive fit.

I highly recommend Coach Phil for everyone's bike fit needs. I was in a "cycling place" where I simply did not want to ride my bike anymore. I felt that I was fighting to get comfortable, challenged and frustrated by how inefficient I felt and simply wanted to forget about biking.

Coach Phil addressed all of my bike fit needs, including recommending what products would allow me to become more efficient, without sacrificing comfort.

Coach Phil is an extremely professional and humorous man that values providing exceptional customer service to his clients and he is the only professional, period, that I use for addressing and working on my bike fit and biomechanical needs.

I love my bike… and Coach Phil is the only one I’ll let touch it. He has taken this middle aged, computer nerd through Wildflower Long Course and now through an Ironman… couldn’t do it without him. He has made me a much stronger rider. My friends used to have to wait for me on rides…. now I have to wait for them!

Coach Phil is the best! I had heard great things about him---so I drove from downtown SF over to Richmond for my fit--easy location to get to and I appreciated that Phil was able to see me in the evening after work-very convenient. The adjustments that Phil made have changed my rides incredibly...as one friend commented--finally, you are riding the bike instead of fighting with the bike. Phil offered some excellent tips during the bike fit and made some recommendations which are extremely helpful. Thanks Phil---you rock!!!

After getting worm recommendations from Shai (thanks man!),
Guy and I came back from bike fitting (yesterday), it's a bit far away (Richmond), like one hour drive.

It was a very interesting and knowledgeable experience...!
It took couple of hours (we spent the entire afternoon there) for me and GUY, including small gear/wheels/brakes/handlebar adjustments that Phil has done on our bikes. Guy and I went to Phil because of all sort of small pain that we had (knees, foot, lower back, neck, hips etc...) As First Goal we asked for comfort ride and as second goal we asked for efficiency.

After the fitting yesterday we took the bikes to test ride today on Mt Montebello...
The Results are unbelievable for both of us - no pain -what so ever!!!
And an amazing comfortable ride.
Later we also tested the bikes on long rides (we rode 2 weeks in Dolomites Italy), same results, no pain and extreme comfort!

It's hard to believe that every millimeter counts - but it does!
Phil is an ex-pro bike racer, who really loves his work; he knows what he's doing - a true expert!!! (And a very nice guy)
I intend adopting him, and his knowledge, and consulate with him on every bike issue that I'm going to have.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for all of us!

Phil is an amazing bike fitter. He has the ability to spot extremely subtle problems and correct them. I have heard many stories from my friends who have seen him who have never felt so good on a bike from things as small as a tiny shim in a shoe to a major change. Phil is the only one I would trust to fit my whiny ass (I complained a lot about being uncomfortable before Phil) on my bike.

I had my bike fit by Coach Phil and it made a huge difference. Not only was I more comfortable in the saddle but my power output also increased. This service is well worth it.

I have had a number of bike fits over the years and recently, after moving to CA, four different fits with Coach Phil on four different bikes (tri, road, combined road tri, & commute).  Coach Phil is the ultimate professional, taking whatever time in takes to get it perfect. Not only will you feel more comfortable and have better power output, you will also be less likely to get injured. It is definitely worth it to have a professional bike fit.

Hey Phil, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for the amazing bike fit! Everything feels so much better--- I had no idea what a difference it would make! I appreciate all of your time, effort and all the extra tips...I will definitely recommend you to my friends!

I've never felt as strong on the bike and my knees and back are pain free for the first time in a year!. I did half the training for the San Jose International tri this year, compared to last year and still knocked 12 minutes (!!!) off my bike. I believe its because of the bike fit adjustment and the different sized and slightly elevated stem that Phil recommended. A centimeter here, a millimeter there may not seem like much, but let me tell you, it made a HUGE difference.

My bike fit with Phil at Hypercat was great!  He took so much time understanding what kind of rider I was and what kind of riding I expected to grow into and took everything into consideration when adjusting my bike.  I love the fact that he explained why and took time to teach me something new between adjustments!

My bike fit time with you was definitely an eye opener for me! My bike feels great. I raced at Pacific Grove last weekend and upped my mph on the bike which was exciting for me. Even more so was my run.  I felt as though I had more legs left for the run. I won my age group and even broke the course record for my age so the bike fit was a success and long over due! Thanks for all the info and answers to my many questions. I hope to come up for one of your bike clinics in mid October if you have one then. Thanks again!
