Determining a cyclist's optimal position
Riding a bike is a dynamic action that requires a combination of balance, technique and comfort to be done for any length of time efficiently. Our fitting process starts by following a specific kinetic chain throughout the body. Beginning with cleat placement and alignment we work our way up through the body via the knee, then to the pelvis, to the lumbar spine, the scapula and cervical spine area. Back down from the shoulders to elbow to wrist, hand and fingers. Throughout the process we are continually checking and re-checking any adjustments and the resulting effects on the kinetic chain. By employing tools like lasers and the Computrainer we are able to monitor the accurately and make fine tuning adjustments as we go.
Tools used during your fitting
The most important tool employed during your fitting is experience. Coach Phil has fit thousands of athletes over the last 20 years providing for a unique knowledge set. Coach Phil also employs a variety of other tools to measure alignment, joint angles, effort and comfort and bio feedback. Lasers are used for alignment of joints through the pedaling process as well as to check for equipment alignment. The Computrainer is used with spin scan for pedal stroke analysis and to monitor your power output at every 15 degrees of pedal stroke. Left and right leg power output balance, overall pedaling efficiency, average torque angle for each leg, wattage, cadence, speed and heart rate are all monitored and assessed. These tools in conjunction with one another allows for the fine tuning of your fit while monitoring the effects of the changes as they relate to power output, efficiency and metabolic costs.
